CAITLIN RHOADES
Welcome. You have landed on a shared space of my two passions in life: grief work and ceramics. Feel free to explore one or both areas depending on what brought you here.
Despite being different topics in nature they are interwoven into the tapestry of my life. Pottery became a great healing modality for me as I navigated numerous losses in my life. My intention is to bring light to the taboo subject of death and ceramic vessels into the world.
About Caitlin
Growing up in Northern New Mexico I find true inspiration from the subtle hues of the desert to the profound expansiveness of the vistas. Working with clay has been a grounding force in my life. Pottery has been a part of my journey since I was a child (see fabulous bowl cut pic circa 1980’s).
During my prior career as a psychotherapist I found myself holding a container or vessel for people to work through the challenges of life. I focused on providing safety and comfort. And now I can say that same theme is woven into my pottery. I find great joy in creating containers and vessels for each of us to put what nourishes us into them. Whether it be food or flowers or dreams. My hope is these vessels will bring happiness, comfort, and a feeling of home. Each piece is handmade with care, attention to detail and over 30 years of successes and failures and the joy in knowing someone will make it a part of their everyday routines or for special occasions.
Most recently life took a big turn with three major deaths in my life in a short period of time. Those experiences have had a huge impact on my life personally and now professionally. My hope is to weave my grief work and pottery together. I am also working on becoming a death doula as I would like to pay it forward in this world by supporting others and their families through the death process.
